Not Just Hormones exists to make women’s health information genuinely useful. This page explains how content on this site is researched, written, and maintained.
Who writes this content
All content is written by the founder of Not Just Hormones, a third year medical student in the UK with a personal interest in obstetrics and gynaecology, and lived experience of PCOS (now known as PMOS). Posts draw on medical training, published guidance, and personal experience — not clinical practice. Posts are not currently reviewed by a practising clinician; if that changes, it will be stated here. This is not a substitute for professional medical advice; see our Medical Disclaimer for more detail.
Sourcing standards
Where a post makes a factual or clinical claim, it’s backed by credible sources — primarily NHS guidance, NICE clinical guidelines, and peer-reviewed research. Sources are listed in a simple “Sources” section at the end of each post, rather than academic-style in-text citations, to keep posts readable without sacrificing accuracy. Where personal experience is shared, it’s clearly framed as such and not presented as universal or clinical fact.
A note on AI tools
We use AI tools to support parts of the writing process — for example, refining clarity, structure, and grammar. Sources are primarily identified and hand-picked directly from NHS, NICE, and peer-reviewed material; if AI is used to assist with research, every source it suggests is independently checked against the original material before it’s cited. All medical content, sourcing, and final judgment are the founder’s own; AI is not used to generate clinical claims or replace research from credible sources. Every post is written, fact-checked, and approved by a real person before publishing.
Accuracy and updates
Medical guidance evolves, and we’re committed to keeping content current. Where a post’s underlying guidance changes materially, we aim to review and update it, noting the date of any significant revision at the top of the post. If you spot something that seems outdated or inaccurate, please let us know — see below.
Corrections
Mistakes happen, and we’d rather fix them than pretend otherwise. If you notice an error, outdated information, or something that doesn’t look quite right, please get in touch via our Contact page. Genuine corrections will be made promptly, and where a correction is significant, we’ll note it transparently on the affected post.
How topics are chosen
Topics are chosen based on gaps we’ve noticed in accessible women’s health information, personal experience, as well as personal interest, and — increasingly — reader suggestions. If there’s something you wish someone had explained to you, we want to hear about it via our Contact page.
Independence
Not Just Hormones is currently unfunded and does not accept payment for coverage. If this ever changes (for example, through affiliate links or sponsored content), it will be clearly and separately disclosed, and will never influence the accuracy or independence of our informational content.
